Ed Sheeran has revealed that his upcoming album, “Play”, will embrace a Eurasian musical approach, drawing inspiration from Persian melodies and rhythms.
New Single “Azizam” & Persian Musical Influences
Sheeran is set to release “Azizam” next month as the album’s lead single. The track was created in collaboration with Ilya Salmanzadeh, a renowned producer known for his work with Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding, and Sam Smith.
“Ilya suggested we experiment with sounds inspired by Persian culture,” Sheeran shared. “I love discovering new musical traditions when I travel, and this experience felt like opening the door to a whole new and exciting world.”
“I was fascinated by how Persian rhythms, scales, and instruments felt both unique and yet somehow similar to the Irish folk music I grew up with. It really showed me how music can unite us all.”
What Happened to Sheeran’s Death Metal Project?
Fans may recall that Sheeran had previously hinted at working on a death metal album, but it appears that project has yet to materialize.
However, he has collaborated with extreme metal band Cradle of Filth, and rumors suggest that one of their joint tracks might appear on a future album by the band.
With “Play”, Ed Sheeran proves once again that he isn’t afraid to step outside his musical comfort zone, embracing new sounds and cultural influences beyond Western music.
